Ongoing Support for Patients and Their Families Through Educational Workshops and Counseling Sessions

Throughout the summer months, the Fight Against ALS Foundation continued its activities aimed at providing professional support to patients and their families through educational workshops and regular counseling sessions.

As part of these activities, an educational workshop entitled “How to Cope Psychologically with MND/ALS – as a Patient and a Family Member” was held on August 27, 2026, bringing together 20 patients and their family members.

The workshop was led by Dragan Ivković and Danica Banašević, PhD in Psychology, with the aim of providing psychological support to patients and their loved ones in coping with the everyday challenges the disease brings.

A particularly valuable aspect of the workshop was its individualized approach, which gave participants the opportunity to share their experiences, ask questions, and receive professional advice tailored to their needs through one-on-one conversations with the psychologists. To ensure that support remained available beyond the workshop, participants were also provided with the psychologists’ direct contact details, allowing them to reach out whenever they feel the need for additional assistance.

Continued Counseling Sessions Organized by the Fight Against ALS Foundation

In addition to educational workshops, the Foundation continued its regular counseling sessions, offering patients and their families opportunities to speak with professionals, share experiences, and receive support.

Three counseling sessions were held over the past few months. The session organized on June 18 was attended by 10 participants, while the session held on August 20 brought together 15 patients and their family members from various cities across Serbia, including Niš, Novi Sad, and Pančevo. The following session, held on September 17, was attended by eight participants.

It is particularly encouraging that entire families often attend these sessions together, further highlighting the importance of providing support not only to patients but also to their loved ones, who face the challenges of the disease alongside them.

Through the continued organization of educational workshops and counseling sessions, the Fight Against ALS Foundation strives to provide patients and their families with accessible professional assistance, a safe space for open conversation, and a sense of community, reinforcing the message that they are not alone in facing the challenges of the disease.
